Some say:
- "Competitive dancing takes the "art" out of dance; it's no longer looked at as something pleasurable, but just a reason to beat someone."
- "Its not about Technique, its about Tricks!"

While others say:
- "Competitive Dancing gives you an adrenaline rush!"

I personally feel that competitive dancing gave me better stage presence and higher self-esteem. I learned so much from my competitive studio. You do have to remember there are other forms of dance, but competitive dancing is so much fun! Why not let kids enjoy this form of dance?! The whole world of dance is just a big competition anyway.
Coming from a competition studio I think Competitive dancing is an important aspect to the learning process and development as a dancer. Have you seen the girls that are competing in dance lately? They are AMAZING! They don't just do tricks. Their techniques are almost flawless because they are passionate about it and spend hours rehearsing. I feel competitions give dancers the drive to do better and achieve more, not just win a medal or trophy and beat someone. I enjoyed participating in competitions when I was in high school. We should go compete as college students or as teachers!! ;) I'm up for it... are you?

Dance is dance whether it is performing on a stage with audience members or in front of judges. Well that is what I think. I also think that if you love to dance find any way to do it and if competition dance is how it is done then so be it.
I think that competitive dancing can be beneficial for dancers as long as they remember that dance is an art form. It's not just about competing to win, because win or loose we all have the opportunity to share our dancing with the audience. That is rewarding in itself!
